Psychedelic Integration

The latest resurgence of interest in mind-altering substances and their therapeutic potential can be attributed to various factors, all converging to shape a new era of acceptance and research. This shift has transformed the way we perceive these substances and their profound impact on mental health.

One significant contributor to this transformation is the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies. Their extensive research, in collaboration with their partners, delves into the mental health benefits of substances such as MDMA within therapeutic settings. This pioneering work has been instrumental in reshaping the landscape of psychedelic medicine.

Another influential element is the groundbreaking book “How to Change Your Mind” by Michael Pollan. A New York Times bestseller, this book chronicles the personal journey of the award-winning author as he explores the transformative potential of substances like psilocybin and 5MEO-DMT. Pollan's work has captivated audiences and ushered in a new wave of open dialogue surrounding these substances.

In addition to these factors, there's a growing societal awareness of the drawbacks of the "war on drugs." People have begun to understand its profound toll on society, leading to a reevaluation of drug policies and an increased openness to alternative approaches to mental health and well-being.

Psychedelic Integration

As the fears around psychedelics have started to slip out of the cultural narrative, there has been an uptick in people becoming interested in the healing powers of psychedelic assisted therapy. Many people partake in ayahuasca or psilocybin ceremonies and come back feeling enlightened or at least less burdened by their worries. Others may try ketamine assisted sessions at a clinic.

However, it's not uncommon for individuals to experience a moment of confusion shortly after such profound experiences, questioning the purpose of these ceremonies, given that their lives remain largely unchanged. This is where the concept of integration takes center stage.

Simply put, integration is the vital process through which individuals take the lessons and revelations from their psychedelic journeys and begin to translate them into meaningful changes in their everyday lives. This critical step is often overlooked, as some may continue to attend ceremonies or use psychedelics more frequently in the hope that the effects will endure.

What I offer

Integration is a highly individualized journey, resembling the process of dream work. It involves taking the abstract and uncovering its deeper meaning, then seamlessly weaving that newfound understanding into your life. For some, it may entail addressing and integrating the aftermath of challenging or 'bad trips,' a process similar to working through other forms of trauma.

As a Registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (#131631), I specialize in integration, employing a fusion of therapeutic approaches tailored to your unique needs. This may encompass coaching for behavioral changes, helping you translate your experiences into tangible, lasting shifts in your life. If desired, I can also assist in preparing you for future psychedelic experiences, ensuring a safe and meaningful journey.

Throughout this transformative process, I operate under the guidance and supervision of Pam Shaffer (LMFT #93123).
